Fix: iPhone Not Charging Properly or Charging Slowly

iPhone

If your iPhone is not charging properly, charging slowly, or not charging at all, try these troubleshooting steps to fix the issue.

Solution 1: Check Your Charging Cable and Adapter

Faulty or damaged accessories can cause charging issues.

  1. Inspect your Lightning or USB-C cable for damage.
  2. Try using a different Apple-certified charger and adapter.
  3. Plug your charger into a different power outlet.

Solution 2: Clean the Charging Port

Dirt or debris in the charging port may block the connection.

  1. Turn off your iPhone.
  2. Use a flashlight to inspect the charging port.
  3. Gently clean it with a toothpick or a soft brush.
  4. Try charging your iPhone again.

Solution 3: Force Restart Your iPhone

If your iPhone is not responding, a force restart may help.

  • For iPhone 8 and later: Press and release Volume Up, press and release Volume Down, then hold the Power button until the Apple logo appears.
  • For iPhone 7 series: Hold Volume Down and Power simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.
  • For iPhone 6s and earlier: Hold Home and Power together until the Apple logo appears.

Solution 4: Check for Software Issues

Sometimes, software glitches can cause charging problems.

  1. Go to Settings → General → Software Update and install any available updates.
  2. Reset all settings by navigating to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset All Settings.

Solution 5: Enable Optimized Battery Charging

If your iPhone stops charging at around 80%, this may be due to Optimized Battery Charging.

  1. Go to Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging.
  2. Turn off Optimized Battery Charging to allow full charging.

Solution 6: Try Wireless Charging (If Supported)

If your iPhone supports wireless charging, place it on a Qi-certified wireless charger to see if it charges.

Solution 7: Check for Liquid Damage

If your iPhone has been exposed to moisture, it may not charge.

  1. Look for a red indicator inside the SIM tray (indicates liquid damage).
  2. If wet, let it dry for at least 24 hours before attempting to charge.

Solution 8: Contact Apple Support

If none of the above solutions work, visit an Apple Store or authorized repair center for further assistance.
